Exam day at home
Sit a printed practice paper like the real 11+. A calm recorded voice reads the rules, says “You may begin”, gives time warnings and says “Stop. Put your pencil down.” You get a big clock, pause and skip.
How it works
1. Print the paper
Any printed practice paper and its answer sheet: one of our free practice paper books, a free paper PDF or a mock exam on paper.
2. Set the table
Two sharp pencils, a rubber, and nothing else. Put this screen where your child can see the clock, like the clock on the wall of an exam hall.
3. Press Start
The voice reads the rules, says when to begin, gives time warnings and tells your child when to stop. You can pause at any time.
4. Mark it
Take a photo of the answer sheet or type the answers in, and we mark it with every answer explained.
Need a paper? Our free practice paper books and free practice paper PDFs print with an answer sheet, and each of their papers has an “Exam day mode” link that sets the time for you.

Questions parents ask
Why practise with an exam voice at home?
On the day, most children are nervous because everything feels new: a stranger reading rules, a clock on the wall, being told when to start and stop. Hearing the same kind of instructions at home a few times makes the real thing feel familiar, and the time warnings help children learn to pace themselves.
Is this the official GL or CEM script?
No. The wording is our own, written to feel like a calm exam room. Each school and test centre runs its exam day in its own way, and the exam boards don't publish their scripts. The timings are the ones you set, so use the time printed on your paper.
What is the difference between the two timing styles?
"One timed paper" is like GL Assessment papers: one time limit for the whole paper, with warnings near the end. "Short timed sections" is like CEM-style papers, where each short section has its own time and children are told when to start and stop each one. CEM papers change every year, so our section timings are typical, not exact.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. It works in any up-to-date browser. Turn the volume up and keep the page open: where the browser allows, the screen stays on while the test runs. If the sound doesn't play, the words appear on screen with a soft beep.
