How to solve: Know your tables up to 12 × 12 by heart, and use them backwards for division: 56 ÷ 7 is "what times 7 makes 56?"
How to solve: Split numbers into tens and ones, or count up from the smaller number to the bigger one to find a difference.
How to solve: To find a fraction of a number, divide by the bottom number, then multiply by the top. 10% means divide by 10.
How to solve: Multiplying by 10 or 100 moves every digit one or two places to the left; dividing moves them to the right.
How to solve: Learn doubles, halves and square numbers, and do × and ÷ before + and − in a calculation.
How to solve: Know the key facts: 100p in £1, 100 cm in 1 m, 1000 g in 1 kg, 60 minutes in an hour. Change everything into the same unit first.
