What it practises
Similes: completing well-known similes (as busy as a bee, as cool as a cucumber), spotting the sentence that contains a simile, and telling similes from metaphors and personification.
How to solve them
A simile compares one thing to another using 'like' or 'as'. A metaphor says something IS something else, and personification gives a thing human actions. Learn the common 'as ... as' similes by heart.
How to use it
Print the questions and keep the answers page to one side. Allow about 12 minutes, then mark it together and talk through anything that went wrong using the explanations. Move up a level once your child gets most of them right.
