What it practises
Simple letter-shift codes. Your child works out how a word was coded, then codes or decodes another word.
How to solve them
Count how many places the first letter moves along the alphabet (forwards or back), check the same shift works for every letter, then apply it.
How to use it
Print the questions and keep the answers page to one side. Allow about 12 minutes, then mark it together and talk through anything that went wrong using the explanations. Move up a level once your child gets most of them right.
