What it practises
Prefixes and suffixes: choosing the prefix (un-, dis-, im-, in-, il-, ir-) that makes a word's opposite, what prefixes such as tele-, sub- and pre- mean, and spelling words correctly when a suffix is added.
How to solve them
Try each prefix in front of the word and say it aloud: only one makes a real word. Before l use il-, before r use ir-, and before m or p use im-. For suffixes, check the rules for dropping e, doubling and changing y to i.
How to use it
Print the questions and keep the answers page to one side. Allow about 12 minutes, then mark it together and talk through anything that went wrong using the explanations. Move up a level once your child gets most of them right.
