What it practises
Algebra for the 11+: order of operations (BODMAS), solving one-step and two-step equations, substituting numbers for letters, function machines, multiplying out brackets and turning word problems into algebra.
How to solve them
Do the same to both sides of an equation and undo the operations in reverse order. When substituting, write the numbers in place of the letters first, and remember 3a means 3 × a.
How to use it
Print the questions and keep the answers page to one side. Allow about 15 minutes, then mark it together and talk through anything that went wrong using the explanations. Move up a level once your child gets most of them right.
