What it practises
Each question shows a word and its code. Your child works out how every letter has moved along the alphabet, then uses the same rule to code (or decode) a new word.
How to solve them
Write the alphabet out (it is printed on the sheet) and count how far the first letter of the word moves to reach the first letter of the code. Check the rule works for every letter before using it.
How to use it
Print the questions and keep the answers page to one side. Allow about 15 minutes, then mark it together and talk through anything that went wrong using the explanations. Move up a level once your child gets most of them right.
