What it practises
Three groups of words. In the first two groups, the word in brackets is made from letters of the outside words; your child uses the same rule to make the missing word in the last group.
How to solve them
Number the letters of the outside words (1, 2, 3, 4) and write which letters were used, in which order, to make the word in brackets. Check the rule on the second group before using it.
How to use it
Print the questions and keep the answers page to one side. Allow about 15 minutes, then mark it together and talk through anything that went wrong using the explanations. Move up a level once your child gets most of them right.
