What it practises

Letters stand for numbers. Your child puts the numbers into a sum, works it out and gives the answer as a letter.

How to solve them

Write the number above each letter in the sum before you start, work the sum out carefully (× and ÷ before + and -), then find the letter that matches your answer.

How to use it

Print the questions and keep the answers page to one side. Allow about 15 minutes, then mark it together and talk through anything that went wrong using the explanations. Move up a level once your child gets most of them right.
